FAQ
-
That depends. RF performance is heavily influenced by the interplay between obstructions, frequencies used, antennas, and even atmospheric conditions. Depending on the combination of these factors, range extension may be marginal to significant. For example, users communicating in dense foliage can expect to see greater range gains than users communicating in line-of-sight (LoS) situations (e.g. from mountaintop to mountaintop). While there is no “silver bullet” for extending range, you can be confident that REC provides the best platform available to enhance the performance of your goTenna Pro X mesh networking device.
-
Many customers have adopted REC even though their operational environments do not require range extension. Why? Because although not everyone needs additional range, 100% of surveyed users listed “convenience”, “mounting options” and “ruggedness” as their most-appreciated features. This has led to many customers adopting REC even if their operational environments do not require range extension.
-
Not all operational environments require range extension, but almost every operator can benefit from additional device security and convenience. Many of our customers remove the ground plane to reduce the weight and footprint of their setup. While this can negate the range extension capability of REC, it does not affect the ability to securely mount, protect, and quickly access the goTenna Pro X.

Customers attach their REC to MOLLE vests, bags, packs, belts, shoulder straps, and anything else that can interface with the assortment of <Radial Spline (RASP) adapters> available. We currently offer a MOLLE adapter, belt/bag clip, and waistband paddle.
Let us know if you have any additional goTenna use cases so we can explore adding a new mounting accessory to the REC line! -
REC cables provide added security and improve the ingress protection rating at the charging port of the goTenna Pro X. A durable locking system provides positive positioning and additional strain relief to prevent separation of the cable from the Pro X when snagged. We currently offer several lengths in both USB-A and USB-C terminations.
Any certified MicroUSB cable will charge the goTenna, assuming the cable end is not oversized and fits within the case pass-through and Pro X port opening. However, use of standard off-the-shelf connectors will not prevent inadvertent disconnection or enhanced ingress protection.
